Cotton hammock, 'Coffee Trees' (Guatemala)

Cotton hammock, ‘Coffee Trees’ (Guatemala)

$192.95

Woven by hand, this extraordinary hammock evokes a plantation of coffee trees. Rich handloomed textures create bands of greens and and brown. The comfortable hammock is suspended by maguey fiber cords from iron rings. Women from the Ixoq Ajkeem Association create the fabric on backstrap looms, and color it with natural dyes. The green is derived from palo de pito, the brown from coffee leaves and the bark of the avocado tree. Jaspe patterns are achieved by tie dying the threads prior to weaving. Because organic dyes are used, colors may vary slightly.

It appeared that their ranch was high up in the mountains and exactly on the Guatemalan frontier line; that they were smugglers of contraband, robbers, and stock thieves—in fact, they were outlaws. But owing to their being related to the local authorities they had always gone unpunished for their crimes. They had killed cheerfully, and being of pure Indian blood were sure of local support. Hemken implored me not to go, and said exactly what he thought concerning my manager. I felt rather thoughtful, and appreciated the manager’s kindness in sending me on the trip. His thoughtfulness in sparing my feelings by not warning me of the character of the trip touched me deeply—so deeply, in fact, that I cursed him heartily, and changed my shot-gun for a repeating carbine, and left for the job feeling slightly less cheerful than I had been. I had a good deal to think over, and I summed it up on the trail. For me to travel round with so much money on me would be clearly inadvisable. On the other hand, the owner of the money would be safe, and therefore he must bring it in person to the town. But I did not see my way to giving receipts, etc. No; only the boss could do that. The mountain trail was delightful. Tapachula lies practically at sea-level, and a two hours’ ride brought me into the foot-hills of the Sierras. Up to now the vegetation was purely tropical, but at about 1,000 feet above sea-level the palms and purelytropical plants gave place to the big forest trees; all round one were coffee plantations, or green clearings of cacao-trees. Far away underneath, the strip of coast country stretches from the foot-hills to meet the Pacific, breaking up into lagoon country, which is a deep emerald

Journey from, Colombo to Kandy.—Appearance of the Country.—Arrival at Kandy.—The great BoodhM Temple.—Gotama’s Tooth. I Accordingly left Colombo by the mail-coach at five o’clock, A.m., the distance to Kandy being seventy-two miles, with nine changes of horses. Proceeding in a north-easterly direction, the scenery gradually assumes a different appearance from that of the coast, and the vegetation also changes in some degree. Cocoanut trees are scarcer, but the areca, bread-fruit, and teak abound. I saw on the road-side numbers of coffee-shrubs growing apparently wild, but I was told that they were all planted by the natives. Half way, the coach stopped at Ambapusse, thirty-six miles and a half from Colombo ; here we met with the mail coming from Kandy, and the passengers by both coaches breakfasted together. Ambapusse is a beautiful spot, surrounded with hills wooded to the top. The rest-house is commodious and well built, containing beds for six travellers, and other apartments besides. This station is said to be unwholesome at some 32 JOUBNEY FROM COLOMBO TO KANDY. seasons of the year. Continuing the journey, the road gradually ascends, and in some places is rather steep. At the foot of the Kadduganava Pass, a pair of extra horses was attached to our vehicle. The Pass, which is fully three miles in length, leads up the side of a mountain, and has been constructed with great skill, being nowhere dangerous or difficult of ascent. The view in all directions is magnificent. The sides of the hills are nearly covered with trees and shrubs, among which the tall majestic ebony is the most remarkable. Numerous streams pour from the summits into the valley below ; and in the middle of the pass, the road leads through a mass of rock, hollowed through

You can see them from morning to night lounging their lives away on the seats which are among the few modern improvements of which Arles boasts. There is scarcely a street in which two carriages can pass; there is—mirabile dictu—only one cinema ; no particular business seems to be carried on in this out-of-the-world little spot; but in every inch of shade—amid the mottled sunlight of the Place du Forum, under the tall avenues of trees on the Boulevard Victor Hugo, under the pollarded groves in the Place Lamartine—are rows of hard-backed seats on which the venerable inhabitants sit, smoke, spit, discuss local politics, and, since human nature is much the same everywhere, each other’s domestic affairs. It is a pleasant spot to linger in, this Sleepy Hollow on the banks of the Rhone, where a sense of impending adventure is the only thing that prevents it from crumbling completely into dust. We found it a place after our own hearts, did Helen and I. We lounged in the huge Roman Arena; in the cloisters of St. Trophime, half Roman half Moorish; in the Aliftamps, among Roman tombs; finally, and most whole-heartedly, among the other loungers on the shady side of the Boulevard. We were sitting over a coffee one afternoon, watching the infernal white dust being raised instead of settled by the municipal water-cart, when a lorry stacked high withwine-barrels slowed up alongside us and, after a few minutes’ breathless panting, shut off its engine and stopped. A perspiring little man, with twinkling black eyes and grossly unshaven chin, carrying in his hand an immense bunch of white lilac, descended from it, shook the dust out of his

 Ayur Veda

Ayur Veda

$22.49

By committing himself to relieve pain and mental agony, the graduated pain therapist of the German Society for Naturopathy and Energetic Pain Therapy, ayurvedic life coach and author, Hans Georg van Herste travelled through half Europe, South Africa and East Asia.In South Korea, he asked to be instructed in the Korean massage, which may release even the most severe muscle agglutinations. In South Africa, he ran the opportunity to look over a midwife´s shoulder, who taught him how to conduct the birth preparation of the two trees. Over the course of many years, he traveled to India in order to experience and learn the original Ayur Veda. Lakshmi and Shakti, two old-established healers, chose him as their student, drove him through his own, frequently turning out to be painful self-awareness, allowed him to have a look behind the curtains, explained to him the world by means of the ayurvedic point of view, taught him amazing and amazingly simple healing methods and finally rewarded him with a many century-old palm leaf. This honor is only reserved to very few people and made him to one of the happiest people on Earth. With this book, Hans Georg van Herste reveals his knowledge and invites the reader to take part in his adventures and experiences. The curious reader will find out much more, than the price of a pack of coffee. Whether as instructive inner examination or just as interesting reading – this book opens gates and conjures up the spirit of ancient knowledge and makes it appear in a new life.

Helene Hovanec and Patrick Merrell, puzzleworld celebrities and collectors of coffee trivia, have compiled more than 40 crossword puzzles, word searches, graphic mazes, and Sudoku to solve alongside a good, strong cup of joe.*Quirky trivia, fun factoids, and quotations from famous coffee imbibers engage readers between puzzles. From botanical facts about coffee trees to consumption statistics about today’s coffee-obsessed world, there’s enough information to make a coffee connoisseur of every reader. Puzzles, trivia, and coffee quips — a piquant blend of rich, coffee flavor for the latte-addicted among us.• There is some disagreement over the origin of the term "cup of joe." Many think it originated with Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels, who abolished wine from his officers’ meals, leaving them with nothing stronger than coffee. Others think it may have begun as a mispronunciation of the French word, "chaud," which means hot and rhymes with joe.

Can A Hot Beverage Increase Health?

Ganoderma coffee is a coffee mix that has been mixed with extract from the red reishi mushroom, ganoderma lucidum. This mushroom has been utilized in Chinese medication for over 2 millennium. The Chinese name for the mushroom is lingzhi. This name actually means “miraculous or divine mushroom.” The red reishi is a woody, polypore mushroom that grows in brackets on trees in hemlock forests, though it can also be cultivated both inside and outdoors. Gano isn't a herbal coffee.

The reishi mushroom is commonly known as a very forceful immune response stimulator and is very effective in fighting degenerating syndromes like cancer and Aids[**]. It looks to be protecting against cancer by slowing or stopping the genesis of blood vessels that would nourish the tumor and help it spread. It also excites T-cell activity helping to inhibit the HIV virus from replicating.

Reishi mushrooms also appear to keep platelets from dangerously sticking together in arteries, which can end up in hardening of the arteries, strokes and coronaries. Reishi mushrooms have also been shown to lower levels of cholesterol and blood pressure and to control blood sugar, something that's crucial for people afflicted by diabetes.

Folks who drink ganoderma coffee claim that it has other healthful properties, like inflating the flow of oxygen in the body and promoting a general feeling of well being. The mushroom extract, which has a very strongly bitter taste, is not just blended with coffee but with tea and cocoa. Users claim reishi has no side-effects and is totally fine to use, though a few people suffer from what they interpret as side-effects.

Nutritionists believe these side effects, which appear to aggravate the conditions the person is taking the product for, are basically part of a healing crisis, or the “law of cure.” This is down to the fact that the body starts to eliminate toxins during the first few days of taking a care like ganoderma coffee. After a few days of this, the person will start to feel a little bit better. If the method is intensely uncomfortable, they can cut their consumption of ganoderma coffee in half.

When thinking about any nutritive supplement, always be careful, and read information from numerous different sources to come up with an independent, objective call which should keep you healthy and contented for a whole life.

Tim Albert has tried ganoderma coffee. His favorite coffee substitute is ayurvedic coffee.
