What are some good “run your own business” games?
I started babysitting a few days ago and I’ve realized that the family I babysit LOVE playing games where you run your own business. So, I’m just wondering what are some good games (like Coffee Shop, Lemonade Stand, Tuti Fruti Icecream parlor, Hot Shotz, etc..) that DON’T require any downloads or purchases. And also, it has to be appropriate for ages 9-12.

The Forgotten Class Of The Fading City
She’s off work and she’s walking home. She thinks to herself that a walk will be good for her, and indeed in many ways it will be. Get the old blood flowing. She’ll have to make her way through some of the poorer quarters, but that’s okay, she hasn’t always been as successful as she is now.
This means passing through the bad part of town, but what of it? There’s not much, she realizes, that separates her from them. If the machine were to break down one week, and she were to have to go without the check they cut her every two weeks, it would be over. If she missed even one of these, it would be over. She’d have to find a home among the hobo bags.
Look them over. It matters nothing, they will not find it rude. They are used to the staring eyes of others and recognize that while every glance brings judgment and scrutiny, it also brings the chance for a quarter, or a wadded up dollar bill. The dollar bill could be straightened out, could buy a coffee. It is worth it.
Funny how they all seem to belong to one tribe when their manner of dress and appearance varies so wildly. Look at that fellow there in the patchwork business suit. He used to trade blue chip stocks. Look at that lady with all the bags and girls sweatshirts. Those sweatshirts used to be her daughter’s, when her daughter was young.
This is just how it is though. She shakes her head and thinks about how thin the brick walls are between the alleys full of the homeless and the shops full of the wealthy, or at least the employed, selling their antique engagement rings and pink pants and pizza by the slice.
But how thin that wall really is. Just inches, really. About as thick as the length of time from one paycheck to the next. Speaking of which, you’re getting paid again next week, aren’t you? Maybe you can afford that taxi after all. Look, here’s one now. Roll up the windows and you’ll find it easier to ignore the yawning maw of agony opening beneath your feet.
And this is how it is the world over, from one city to the next. The division between those who are getting along and those who have lost their foothold is a fine one, but it is a step from which most will never recover once they fall down it. Will you live under the shackles of wage slavery a day longer? It is time to consider alternatives.

Although the eighth largest crowd in history attended opening day, I got to watch the Texas Rangers online for the start of the 2010 season. And as any Ranger fan will attest to, this was definitely a nail biter since Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Shaun Marcum had a no-hit bid running for six innings.
But I got to see Ranger great Vladimir Guerrero dash any of Marcum’s hopes when he hit a three-run homer in the seventh. The rallying Rangers were trailing by just a run in the bottom of the ninth when they accomplished crossing two over the plate for a 5-4 walk-off victory before more than 50,000 loyal fans on opening day at the Ballpark in Arlington.
Besides Guerrero’s heroics, a standing room only capacity crowd roared in utter glee when Jarrod Saltalamacchia tagged one with one out and the bases loaded into right-center field to drive in the winning run. He had the count at 2-2. He obviously got a slider that he liked and with the Blue Jays playing in, Saltalamacchia drove the ball well out of reach of anybody allowing David Murphy, pinch-running for Guerrero who had an infield hit earlier, to prance across the plate.
