Why Should You Buy Organic Coffee Beans?
Why are so many people going out of their way to find organic coffee beans when there are so many regular coffee beans selling in local stores for less? Those who start buying organic often get there after trying all brands on local store shelves and feeling unhappy with the quality. If you are still looking for more of a reason to purchase organic coffee products, there are three main reasons to consider:
1. Organic coffee beans are healthier for your body.
You will not find chemical synthetic fertilizers, preservatives, and pesticides in your organic beans, as that is the main difference between organic and regular store products. They also avoid many of the chemical based synthetic ingredients that are used to infuse flavor into products.
Chemical preservatives are used to give foods a longer shelf life while chemical fertilizers and pesticides are used because they are cheaper than other options. When you consume these chemicals on a routine basis they can be very harmful to your health. Studies are starting to link these chemicals to cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Today many of the synthetic products used on food crops in the past are either illegal for food sources or are extremely limited in terms of how and when they can be used in our food.
When you buy organic, you avoid all of the chemicals and get fresh grown products that are much healthier for your body.
2. Organic products are much gentler on the environment.
Those chemicals sprayed on our crops and the ground used to grow crops can also harm the environment. They get into the soil and end up inside our fruits and vegetables, so even peeling the outer layers does not eliminate the damage for your body. Once it is in the soil it can make it into the water supply which then goes out to millions of people who use that water to bathe, cook and stay hydrated. The damage on the soil, water and even the air quality can last for years.
It is a sad fact that most soil used to grow crops today is not nearly as rich in healthy nutrients and organisms as it should be, and was in the past. The depletion of healthy soil nutrients is due to the land being overplanted and the amount of chemicals being sprayed into the ground. Organic products are much healthier for the planet as well as our own bodies.
3. Many organic coffee bean manufacturers do not roast the beans until they are ready to ship out, so they are far fresher than other beans.
It is a sad reality that the majority of people who enjoy coffee have no idea what fresh really tastes like because they have never had truly fresh beans. It is incredibly difficult to find really fresh coffee beans in the grocery store today. If you did not realize that coffee beans could be stale, you are not alone. They assume that if they purchase beans rather than coffee grounds in small bags that they are getting fresh ground coffee when they grind the beans.
This is not the case in our market today. You have to consider the time between the roasting of the beans and the consumption of the beans to determine freshness in coffee. The only way to enjoy truly fresh coffee is to order from a company that roasts the beans when they are ordered, rather than months in advance. Once you try beans that are roasted right before delivery, you will see how stale the beans you have been purchasing actually are.
You may or may not feel inclined to purchase organic coffee beans, but there certainly are some good reasons to consider it. Keep all of these benefits in the back of your mind as you determine what type of coffee to buy next time around. It may take a bit more work to order these coffee beans, but the taste and benefits to your health and the planet may be enough of a reward to spend that extra bit of time ordering and waiting for delivery.
