Good NYC coffee shop?
I’m going to NYC tomorrow to meet somebody and want to find a good coffee shop to take her to. I’m looking for something in the Village or the NYU area, preferably one that’s LGBT friendly and has a sit down area 
Well, right on the corner of Washington Sq N and University PL is “Cafe University.” A lot of NYU students hang out there. It’s not the nicest or biggest place ever, but it’s better than Starbucks and they also sell other things besides just coffee. Their pizza is AMAZING.
There is a nice coffee shop in Union Square, just a little ways walk from NYU, that is pretty good. I think it’s right next to the Starbucks and has sort of a diner feel. I can’t remember the name, but it’s on Union Sq E.
If you feel like getting out just a little bit and talking a walk, Cafe Palermo in Little Italy is great. It’s a bit of a walk from NYU, and it’s on the corner (or near the corner, rather) of Mulberry St and Grand St. It has some of THE best pastries in Little Italy and their mochas are FANTASTIC. Like I said, it’s a bit of a walk, but it’s worth it. It’s LGBT friendly.
Though, honestly? My favourite place in the Village that’s still close to NYU is this little place called French Roast, on the corner of 6th Ave and 11th. It’s not a coffee shop, but it is one of the most charming, picturesque places in the Village. It’s an easy walk from Washington Square Park and has wonderful food and great coffee. It’s LGBT friendly (my fiancée and I eat there all the time), the food is WONDERFUL (seriously, try the french toast) and they have nice little snacks too if you just want coffee.
