downtown or midtown sac?

Hi! I am considering a relocation to Sacramento. I don’t know too much about this city, but I know I hate the area around Arden Hwy. I was just in downtown yesterday and thought it was really cool to live but on the web I keep seeing websites about midtown Sac. What’s the main difference between the two? I was walking aroung the capitol, downtown plaza and the convention center. Was I in downtown or mid-town? I like the city feel of downtown but also like the idea of quaint homes and tree-lined streets with non-commercial stores and coffee shops. I am not a party-type person or into drinking. Which part of Sacramento would be best and what the differences between mid-town and downtown in “feel” and location?

The capitol and it’s surrounding area is downtown. Anything higher than 21st St. to Alhambra Blvd. is considered mid-town. East of Alhambra is East Sacramento. Move to the north end of mid-town. You won’t have to put up with as many bums and panhandlers there as you do in downtown.
