 An Italian Journey

An Italian Journey

$19

First published in France in 1954, Jean Giono’s tale describes his journey to the land whence his father’s people came. A most reluctant traveler, Giono nonetheless discovers a strange beauty not only in such traditional sights as the palazzos and canals of Venice but in people and objects usually ignored or forgotten: wistful waiters, suspicious hair dressers, pugnacious men of God, recalcitrant coffee machines, telescopic umbrellas, and abandoned field machinery. Giono’s world is one where a street gathering that seems to verge on revolution is in reality a stamp collector’s market, and where inept municipal musicians can suddenly offer Mozartian joys.An Italian Journey is also a meditation on the author’s development and a manual on how to achieve happiness. Giono is conscious of Italy’s obvious beauties — the fine monuments, the lyrical landscapes — but his gift is apprehending the joys squeezed from the dark side of life — from dull skies, grim facades, muddy fields, and the tedium of the autostrada. Laden with anecdote and history as well as the author’s exploration of self, An Italian Journey is a masterpiece of travel literature.

FAENZA: Coffee/Tea Cup and Saucer (#004-FAE)

FAENZA Collection: Garofano Collection The Garofano pattern is a true Italian classic from the renowned city of Faenza. Faenza is by cultural tradition defined as City of the Ceramics, lies 30 miles south of Bologna in the north east part of Italy, and while an important agricultural as well as an industrial centre, it owes its renown to ceramics. The role of Faenza in the ceramics field is well-known: its name, in the French version Faience, has meant for centuries a prestige kind of ceramics; no other ceramics-producing city can boast of having kept its stoves alight since ancient Middle Age. History has it that Marco Polo (Venezia 1254-1324) brought the Garofano pattern from the Orient in 1279 (along with the pasta). Initially developed in the Italian region of Lombardia, it later became a world-famous signature-pattern from the Majolica town of Faenza. – All Artistica’s dinnerware products are double fired – durable and 100% Food-Safe Artistica’s dinnerware items are manufactured with Food-Safe glazes and safe color pigments as well as inspected and tested to comply with FDA standards. – Not Safe for Microwave or Conventional Oven Use. Pour Your Heart into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time

$11.87

There’s no denying it: Starbucks has changed the way Americans drink coffee. But even more fascinating than its present success is the story of how Starbucks grew from a local company into a national phenomenon. And no one is in a better position to tell that story than the man who created it. The amazing growth of Starbucks is based on a foundation of values rare in any company, values that place as much importance on employees as they do on profits, that pay as much attention to creativity as to growth. Howard Schultz tells his history, illustrating the principles which have made the company great, and explains the role that innovative benefits and employee-ownership programs have played in its success. For entrepreneurs, marketers, managers, and Starbucks’ ever-growing customer base, here is the definitive chronicle of a company that “has changed everything from our tastes to our language to the face of Main Street” (Fortune). The vision came to Schultz while traveling through Italy, when he recognized the intense relationship that the Italian people had not only with their coffee, but with the coffee bars that are an integral part of the country’s social life. He knew in his heart that Americans would embrace the coffee bar experience in the same way. The idea was the beginning – and the marketing of the brand was brilliant. But Schultz gives credit for the growth of the company to a foundation of values seldom found in corporate America, values that place as much importance on the company’s employees as they do on profits, as much attention to creativity as to growth. Schultz tells the story of Starbucks in chapters that illustrate the principles which have made thecompany enduring, such as “Don’t be threatened by people smarter than you, ” “Compromise anything but your core values, ” “Seek to renew yourself even when you’re hitting home runs, ” and, most simply, “Everything matters.”

have you heard of Google Answers?

sort of like Yahoo answers, except they have real experts.
you ask your question, tell how much money you are willing to pay for them to research it ( could be as low as 1 dollar)
and (usually someone DOES research it.

when you get the answer, you decide if they earned all the fee, or only part of it.

i mention this because a real expert is what you need – or someone who wants to do real research.
