The Greenhouse Cafe $10 The Greenhouse Cafe is located in the wonderful village of Solvang, California, known as “The Danish Capital of America.” Housed in an actual greenhouse building, in the middle of Solvang, the Cafe offers a great open air atmosphere with fresh food and local wine and beer. Owners Aaron and Elsemarie Petersen (a native of Denmark) have owned and operated the Greenhouse since 1995. Having grown up in Solvang, Aaron Petersen attended college and practiced law in Washington state, before returning to Solvang with his wife from Denmark. The Petersen’s operate the Cafe and in their spare time raise their four children, some of who are now old enough to work in the cafe. The Petersen extended family also owns and operates the Inn at Petersen Village, and Mortensen’s Danish Bakery, all within door steps of the Cafe. The philosophy of the Cafe is simple: serve good food in a relaxed setting and employ only local high school and college kids who know how to smile. In July 2010, the Aaron and Elsemarie purchased Ingeborg’s Danish Chocolates from Bent and Inge Lisa Pedersen who owned and operated Ingeborgs for over 35 years. Ingaborgs manufactures its own chocolates, with its factory right on the premises. Elsemarie has taken over the day to day management of Ingeborgs, to ensure all Danish traditions are followed.
