How i can apply the art feeling on my coffee shop logo design?

I’m doing a cafe project in school and i’m trying to come out with an idea that i can say here you go my coffee shop has an art gallery as part of the style the place call MAKAN cafe,my teacher said that i need add feeling of art on this logo..Please i need any tips ,ideas..thank you so much

Starbucks usually has art in their stores. The logo is proffessional looking, like it’s done by an artist. It includes an recognizable image.
Tone of Starbucks: Mature, Easy-Going, Suave, Laid Back, Cozy (I’m not sure why I capitalize but it’s all ok)

I guess you need to think about the tone your coffe shop/art gallery would have. Playful? Cuisine? Gourmet? Fancy? Local? Exotic? No?

Once you have a mood you like, then you can do the logo I suppose… Think of how you can integrate the message of your dwelling place into your sign.
Well-rounded place? You can round your letters.
We’re the smartest kids in town? Pointy tips. (we’re sharp)
We’ve got art? Well I don’t know how this would work. You can put it into your title, like MAKAN: cafe and gallery. Or, you can show it as, maybe, an underline underneath your title that looks like a paintbrush stroke.

I am a photographer and artist that has compiled some work I think is worth showing. I need portfolio help!?

A few days ago, I went into a local coffee shop for lunch when I noticed they used their walls as a mini gallery. It was quite a nice space. After lunch I spoke with the owner who said they had some space available in May. Right now I have the kind of portfolio of a black plastic cover with plastic sleeves with the black acid free paper to allow two photos per page.

The problem is that this is the bare minimum and I am worried that she will not want to show my work because my work is presented poorly. I really cannot spend a lot of money mounting everything on foam core boards and matting them (although I do want to). Does anyone have any suggestions and/or useful experiences to share? I would appreciate the help since this is the first time I am meeting with someone about possibly showing my work. Thanks in advance.
I don’t think foam core and mat is expensive T, I’ve been doing this for a long time (its just that I don’t have the money right now).

You should always present your work in an archival Century box which is meant for such things. Gallery owners more or less expect a photographer to show his/her work in this manner. You can find plenty of them on-line (google “Century Archival Storage Box) or at university bookstores at universities with photo classes. I have a BFA in Photography from the University of North Texas (UNT) and an MFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and have had plenty of gallery experience.It is a good idea for you to have a “finished” photograph that is presented as if it were ready for hanging in the finished gallery (or a photo of how it would be displayed if the work is too large to carry with you in its finished state) to give the gallery curator a better idea of what to expect. It can be fun to wonder along Surin Beach road  to discover the small souvenir shops and boutiques clothing stores.  As you walk down Surin beach road there is a small gallery where you can buy paintings, and a lovely boutique clothes shop Dharma bum.  You could also visit Twinpalms Hotel, and the ‘Island Shop’,  on the ground floor near to the juice bar, selling beautiful bikinis, necklaces and bags, and Palm Spa sells interesting teas, essential oils, and candles. At Palm Spa you could treat yourself to a fantastic steam and massage, you will emerge feeling a million dollars!  As you continue walk towards the end of the road there is a fascinatingly shop – Soul of Asia, which is great for browsing.

If you are visiting Royal Phuket Marina you may want to purchase some home-made chocolates and pasteries to die for. Royal Phuket Marina has a lovely furniture store with various items you could take home with you and spa.

Surin Plaza, and Canal Village are also great places to explore.  For example, Ginger (ground floor, Surin Plaza) has some interesting trinkets, jewelery, and gift items.

Within Canal Village you can find Jim Thompson Thailand’s famous producer of silk products including cushion covers, purses and other luxury items.  There is also a good coffee shop, clinic, travel agent, and souvenir shops.  It has an ATM and parking.

Local Thai Markets
The best local Thai markets is the Sunday market in Cherntalay, at the intersection by the Police station, every Sunday afternoon.  If you want to purchase everyday Thai style clothing, shoes and food this is the place to shop, beware buying toys for small children as the Thai products do not adhere to international safety standards.

Western Style Super Markets
Tesco Lotus is open from 9am to 10pm everyday, it has an ATM and parking, and it is located about 10 minutes from Club Lersuang.  Tesco Lotus is the nearest western style Super Market, it sells most grocery items including fresh milk, drinking water, fruit, vegetables, suncream, music, books, and newspapers; as well as a bakery and pharmacy. 

Carrefour in (Jungceylon mall) Patong is much larger Super Market and it’s about 20 minutes away.  Other Super Markets such as Big C, and Tops can be found in the center of Phuket Island.  Local shops, grocery stores and Seven-Eleven convenience stores are on every main road.

Shopping Malls
There are two main shopping malls, Central Festival and Jungceylon. 

Jungceylon in Patong is the nearest mall, and it has a large variety of shops, including Robinson’s department store, sports shops, a diving shop, food center, cinema, nail and beauty salons.  You can park underground but you may need to pay a small fee depending on how long you stay (show your shopping receipts).  It also has an excellent indoor market called That’s Siam, perfect for souvenirs such as Thai Silks, Pearls, Shells and local items. 

Central Festival is located in the center of the island and is about a 30 minute drive, it has some designer brands like Guess, and everyday shops as well.  Its a great place to buy good quality items, ask for a 5% tourist discount card.

ATMs can be found at all shopping malls and large super markets, the nearest ATM’s are at Tesco Lotus and Surin beach road, near to the Tuk Tuk stand.

The University Of Dayton’s Marian Library Gallery Will Incorporate An Exhibit Of Sculptures By Cincinnati Artist Barbara Trauth, Who Creates Small-Scale Works With A Special Feel For Mary, The Mum Of Jesus.

“Between Heaven and Earth : Tiny Sculptures of Our Lady” will run Wednesday, February 1, through Sunday, April 15, on the 7th floor of Roesch Library. Hours are 8:30 a.m. To 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday by appointment by calling 937-229-4214.

Trauth will be available for an artist’s reception in the studio 7 p.m. Thursday, February 16. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

“There exists a definite contrast between Trauth’s sculptures and her 2-D art,” said the Rev. Johann Roten, S.M, Marian Library director of study and special projects. “The paintings are of strongly figurative nature conveying the peaceful beauty of youngsters and nature. Her sculptures show a marked expressionist inclination.

“Reminiscent of some of the famous German artists of the mid-twentieth century, for example Kaethe Kollwitz, her little sculptures illustrate how much homo sapiens find themselves torn between heaven and earth, between the dynamism of the spirit and the gravity of worldly realities.”

The exhibit features 10 small sculptures and fifteen acrylics and watercolors, many featuring youngsters and the landscape around Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina, where Mary reportedly appeared to youngsters in 1981.

Born in Cincinnati, Trauth graduated from Edgecliff University with a qualification in fine humanities with a concentration in sculpting. She worked as an illustrator for Gibson Greetings Cards Inc, Shillito’s dep store and the Cincinnati Post and Cincinnati Enquirer papers.
