4 or 5 year old paces back and fourth and stares at objects while humming/moaning?
I’ve been observing this 4 or 5 year old boy at this coffee shop and though I have a lot of experience working with children of that age, his behavior is something I have not yet seen. He picks an object, most commonly a table edge and paces back and fourth along the edge of it, taking only 3 or 4 steps each direction, and staring at it with a concentrated or concerned face. He moans or hums in a monotone voice while he does this. He stops momentarily and goes back to mom for a bite of his bagel then rushes back to the table to continues.
Whats going on here? Any insight as to what sort of condition this might be, if it is one?
