I am possibly moving to Chicago from Kansas City and the cost of living is A LOT higher – where can I live under $900/month rent (okay if it’s a studio) where 25-35 yr old crowd is? There are SOO many neighborhoods and I’m not sure which ones are best, safe, etc. Please HELP! 
Lincoln Park and Lakeview are the most popular neighborhoods for young professionals. Both can be pricey depending on where you end up. They are about 20 minutes from downtown on the el and you can walk to a lot of the places you need to go.
Other cool neighborhoods include Bucktown and Wicker Park. They appeal to more of a artsy crowd (think the Crossroads area in KCM). They are just west of downtown and both have lots of shops and restaurants too.
Further North in the city, you’ll also find Andersonville and Lincoln Square. Andersonville should be cheaper than Lincoln Park and some parts of Lakeview. It’s gotten a lot more popular in the last years and it’s getting tons of new shops and restaurants all the time.
All these areas are pretty safe.
