Plant-Parasitic Nematodes of Coffee

Plant-Parasitic Nematodes of Coffee

$239

This book provides an in-depth review of coffee-parasitic nematodes, which in some regions of the world have decimated plantations since late nineteenth century. Throughout its 17 chapters, written by specialists from many research institutions worldwide, this book reviews key aspects of this subject, such as taxonomy of coffee-parasitic Meloidogyne and Pratylenchus species, nematode management, interference of nematodes on coffee physiology, breeding for nematode-resistance and prospects of development of nematode-resistant transgenic coffees. Some chapters present in detail the nematode problems faced by coffee growers in all major producing countries or regions – such as Brazil, Colombia, Vietnam and Central America – and discuss the achievements of those countriesA nematologists towards minimizing yield losses.

 Evolution of the Slave Society and Economy of Sao Paulo, from the 1760s to the 1850s

Evolution of the Slave Society and Economy of Sao Paulo, from the 1760s to the 1850s

$64.95

Today the Brazilian state of São Paulo is one of the world’s most advanced agricultural, industrial, and urbanized regions. Its historical evolution, however, is poorly understood. Most scholarly attention has been paid to the period after 1850, when coffee rose to economic dominance, or to the period since 1880, when large-scale European immigration turned the city of São Paulo into one of the largest metropolises in the world. This book thus provides the first comprehensive portrait of the economy and people of São Paulo during the critical transition from the traditional eighteenth-century colonial world to the modernizing world of the nineteenth century. The result is a major rethinking of the history of early slavery in Brazil—it shows that, contrary to previous beliefs, slavery was as deeply entrenched and exploited in São Paulo as elsewhere in Brazil, and that the state’s early economic growth (as the world’s leading coffee-producing region after 1850) was made possible by an expanding African slave labor force. This raises many questions about São Paulo’s supposed “exceptionalism” and challenges the standard account of the state’s economic history, which has been strongly shaped by ideas of path dependence. In addition to studying the slave-owning class, the authors investigate the economic role of free whites and colored who did not own slaves, and compare São Paulo’s slave society and economy with other such regions in the Americas.

 Female Prostitution in Costa Rica

Female Prostitution in Costa Rica

$138.92

This book analyzes the development of female prostitution in the Pacific port of Puntarenas, Costa Rica during the advanced stage of the coffee exporting economy (1880-1930), at the height of the consolidation of the liberal state. Hayes argues that prostitution in the port differed from that of the coffee producing highlands due to differential economic, social, and political development. In the periphery of Puntarenas, the development of prostitution reflected a less stigmatized view of sexual commerce than that of the highlands, where prostitution, although legal, threatened the tenets of liberal nationalism based on racial homogeneity and family values. Women of the highlands were encouraged to reproduce the nation’s more European stock of workers and to ensure the legal transference of property through legal church marriages – both part of a design to stabilize the coffee exporting project. By contrast, prostitutes and other working women of Puntarenas, many immigrants from the less European populations of neighboring regions and most in concubinage, were freer to do what the law prescribed – register as prostitutes in legitimate trade. Such regional disparities reveal weaknesses in traditional explanations of Costa Rican exceptionalism, which have rested on the premise of cultural homogeneity and have reflected the realities of only one region of the country. The book advances an alternative explanation for the development of the nation’s more democratic institutions, situating Costa Rican exceptionalism in the nation’s free labor system, of which the labor prostitute in Puntarenas provides an example.

Excerpt: Estancia is the Spanish and Portuguese word for the North American term ranch. It describes a large rural estate. The term is used in Argentina, southern Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay. The equivalent in other Latin American countries would be hacienda, or fazenda (only in Brazil). Unlike a hacienda, which could be any type of agricultural venture, producing grain, coffee, vegetable, beef, etc., an estancia, most typically located in the southern South American grasslands, the pampas, has historically always been a livestock (cattle or sheep) estate. During the first centuries of Spanish colonial rule, cattle introduced by the Spanish roamed free and man undertook raids to catch and slaughter them. In the 19th century stationary ranching ventures started to form in the pampas, with permanent buildings and marked livestock with clearly defined ownership. They were called estancias, the term indicating the stationary, permanent character. The estancia’s ranch worker on horseback, the gaucho, is of similar importance to national folklore and identity to the cowboy in North America. In recent decades agriculture has intensified and often shifted from livestock to crop farming in the pampas of Argentina and Uruguay, due to the regions high soil fertility. A small number of estancias, particularly those with historic architecture have been converted into guest ranches, in Argentina and Uruguay as well as in Paraguay or Chile. Several cities and villages, mainly but not exclusively in Latin America, grew out of such estancias and are named accordingly, for example: … More: http://booksllc.net/?id=5128424

Algebra help?

A coffee shop sells two coffee mixes: Super and Deluxe. Each bag of Super includes 8 ounces of Brazilian coffee and 8 ounces of Colombian coffee. Each bag of Deluxe includes 4 ounces of Brazilian and 12 ounces of Colombian. The shop has 320 ounces of Brazilian and 480 ounces of Colombian available. The profit for each bag of Super is $5 and the profit for each bag of Deluxe is $8. The coffee shop wants to determine how many bags of each mix to produce so that their profit is maximized.

A. Write a set of inequalities representing the constraints.

B. List all of the corner points of the feasible region.

C. Write the objective function. What is the maximum profit, and what combination of mixes will produce it.

I don’t know the terms ‘corner point’, ‘feasible region’ or ‘objective function’ but I believe I have solved the problem anyway.

Let the number of bags of Super = x
Let the number of bags of Deluxe = y

Let the number of ounces of Brazilian used = b
Let the number of ounces of Colombian used = c

Then

b = 8x + 4y
c = 8x + 12y

b =< 320
c =< 480

So

0 =< 8x + 4y =< 320
0 =< 8x + 12y =< 480

This is probably your 'feasible region'. It will be a region in the x-y plane.

Let 8x + 4y = 320

Then y = 80 - 2x

This is a straight line passing through (0,80) and (40,0).

Let 8x + 12y = 480

Then y = 40 - 2x/3

This is a straight line passing through (0,40) and (60,0).

Let 80 - 2x = 40 - 2x/3

Then 40 - 2x = - 2x/3
40 = 4x/3
x = 30
y = 80 - 2x = 80 - 60 = 20

So the 2 lines intersect at the point (30,20)

So the feasible region is bounded by: (0,0), (0,40), (30,20) and (60,0).

The profit P = 5x + 8y

8y = -5x + P
y = (-5x + P)/8

dy/dx = -5/8 = -0.625

A given level of profit will correspond to a particular straight line of slope -5/8 in the x-y plane. The highest profit will correspond to the highest such line which passes through the feasible region.

For the line y = 80 - 2x, dy/dx = -2

For the line y = 40 - 2x/3, dy/dx = -2/3 = -0.67 (approx.)

I have drawn a diagram of the feasible region. Sorry I don't know how to reproduce it here, but by inspection I can see that the maximum value of P in the feasible region will be realised at the point (0,40).

In other words, the maximum profit will be realised if the shop sells 0 bags of Super and 40 bags of Deluxe. This requires 4 x 40 = 160 ounces of Brazilian and 12 x 40 = 480 ounces of Colombian. The maximum profit will be 5x + 8y = (5 x 0) + (8 x 40) = $320.

Now for a cup of coffee! (Deluxe of course)

In the lighting {field|area|subject|discipline}, CHARLES F. BRUSH was the most prominent innovator and entrepreneur of the {period|interval}. His {major|main|key|significant} contribution was the {practical|sensible|useful} {development|improvement|advancement|growth} and {commercial|industrial|business} exploitation of the arc {light|gentle|mild}. {Although|Even though|Despite the fact that|While} the latter was invented in England in 1808, Brush devised its {practical|sensible|useful} {application|software} by {developing|creating|building|establishing} an {improved|enhanced} dynamo to {provide|offer|supply|present} a {steady|regular|constant} {current|present|existing|latest}, and by {making|generating|producing|creating} {design|style|layout|design and style} {changes|adjustments|modifications|alterations} in the arc fixture {itself|by itself|alone} that {improved|enhanced} the {quality|high quality|top quality|excellent} of the {light|gentle|mild} and {extended|prolonged} the {working|operating|functioning|doing work} {life|existence|lifestyle} of the carbon electrodes. He also redesigned the lamp’s circuit to make arc lighting {possible|feasible|achievable|doable} from central stations. Brush {began|started|commenced} to {sell|promote|market|offer} {small|little|tiny|modest} arc lighting {systems|methods|techniques|programs} in the late 1870s for use in {stores|shops|retailers|merchants}, factories, and {hotels|accommodations|resorts|lodges}. {However|Nevertheless|Nonetheless|Even so}, the {potential|possible|prospective|likely} of this {equipment|gear|tools|devices} was {first|initial|1st|very first} {realized|recognized} with Brush’s demonstration of its {street|road}-lighting {possibilities|prospects|opportunities|options} on 29 Apr. 1879, in Cleveland’s PUBLIC SQUARE. The brilliance of the {light|gentle|mild} {produced|created|made|developed} by his 12 lamps {caused|triggered|brought on|induced} a sensation and foretold the decline of the {gas|gasoline|fuel}-lighting era. As a {result|outcome|end result|consequence}, Brush {sold|offered|bought|marketed} central {power|energy|electrical power|strength} stations to San Francisco, New York, Baltimore, Boston, and Philadelphia. In 1880 Brush {bought|purchased} the Cleveland Telegraph {Supply|Provide} Co., {where|exactly where|in which|wherever} he had {done|carried out|completed|performed} the developmental {work|operate|perform|function}, and renamed it the Brush {Electric|Electrical} Co. The battle {between|in between|among|involving} {electric|electrical} and {gas|gasoline|fuel} lighting lasted some 30 {years|many years|a long time}, and {although|even though|despite the fact that|while} {advances|advancements|improvements} {were|had been|have been} {made|produced|created|manufactured} in {gas|gasoline|fuel}-lighting {technology|technologies|know-how|engineering}, {electricity|electrical energy|electrical power} won out. {During|Throughout|In the course of|For the duration of} that time, CLEVELAND {City|Metropolis} COUNCIL, viewing comparative {costs|expenses|fees|charges}, voted to go {back|back again|again} to {gas|gasoline|fuel} {light|gentle|mild} in 1883 but reversed {itself|by itself|alone} 17 days later. About the time that Brush was {developing|creating|building|establishing} his arc {light|gentle|mild}, Thomas Edison {designed|created|developed|intended} a {practical|sensible|useful} incandescent lamp which later had {great|fantastic|excellent|wonderful} significance for Cleveland, {because|simply because|due to the fact|since} the {companies|businesses|organizations|firms} that {formed|shaped} the {National|Nationwide} {Electric|Electrical} Lamp Assn. in 1906 centered {much|a lot|significantly|considerably} of their {light|gentle|mild}-bulb {production|manufacturing} in this {area|region|location|place}. When NELA {became|grew to become} the {National|Nationwide} {Quality|High quality|Top quality|Excellent} Lamp Division of {General|Common|Basic|Standard} {Electric|Electrical} CO., it established NELA PARK in the SUBURBS. The division took the {leading|main|top|foremost} {role|function|position|part} in GE’s incandescent lighting {development|improvement|advancement|growth} {program|plan|system} from 1915 {until|till|until eventually|until finally} 1935, when fluorescent lighting {research|study|analysis|investigation} {became|grew to become} prominent.
The {equipment|gear|tools|devices} for the {first|initial|1st|very first} {electric|electrical} streetcar line in the Cleveland {area|region|location|place} was {developed|created|produced|formulated} and {tested|examined} in the {shops|retailers|outlets|stores} of the Brush {Electric|Electrical} Co., and a Brush generator was {used|utilized|employed|applied} in the {car|automobile|vehicle|auto} barn that powered the line from its {start|begin|commence|start off}-up, in 1884. The line, which operated as the EAST CLEVELAND RAILWAY CO., had technical {problems|issues|difficulties|troubles} with its underground {power|energy|electrical power|strength} {supply|provide} cable and closed down the {following|subsequent} {year|yr|12 months|calendar year}. {Work|Operate|Perform|Function} continued, {however|nevertheless|nonetheless|even so}, and a successor line reached Public Square from its {home|house|residence|property} station in East Cleveland in 1889. This {event|occasion} was {followed|adopted} by the electrification of other {local|nearby|neighborhood|regional} {car|automobile|vehicle|auto} lines in the {area|region|location|place}.
The Cleveland-{area|region|location|place} electrical {industry|business|market|marketplace} grew {rapidly|quickly|swiftly} {during|throughout|in the course of|for the duration of} the 1800s, led by the {expansion|growth|enlargement} of {applications|programs} in communications, lighting, and traction. By 1900 Cleveland ranked {first|initial|1st|very first} in the {production|manufacturing} of {electric|electrical} automobiles, and at the {end|finish|stop|conclude} of the century’s {first|initial|1st|very first} decade it also claimed {first|initial|1st|very first} {place|location|spot|put} in the {production|manufacturing} of carbons, lamps, and electrical hoisting {apparatus|equipment}. In the mid-1920s, Cleveland ranked {3rd|third} in the {production|manufacturing} of radios, {after|following|right after|soon after} New York and Chicago. Theodore A. Willard, whose WILLARD STORAGE BATTERY CO. was Cleveland’s {largest|biggest|greatest} battery producer, founded the city’s {first|initial|1st|very first} {high|higher|large|substantial}-powered radio station, WTAM. What truly is the best coffee in the world? Is there a place that is known for having the best coffee?

I’ve searched Yahoo Answers and even though this question has been asked many times, the answers are everywhere. I’m mainly curious if there is a region in the world that is known to produce the best tasting coffee beans when roasted properly.

First, it is generally agreed that the best coffee bean is an arabica, not a robusta coffee bean. The arabica is grown at higher climates and is less bitter. There are many varietals of the arabica which originated in Ethiopia.

It is not the Kopi Luwak that is pooped out, but that would be considered the most exotic however that is not what you asked. Nor would it be Starbucks unless you asked for best coffee milkshake.

So if you were to try many arabicas from different areas of the world you might settle on a flavor that suits your palate, kinda like Coke over Pepsi.

But there is one country based on international cupping competitions that continuously produces champion coffees and is considered to have the best micro climate on the planet for growing coffee. That country is Panama. You are probably surprised but here are the facts.

2003 was the last year the SCAA (Specialty Coffee Assoc of America) had a true blind cupping competition where every entrant was single and not grouped (Since then, they grouped countries and then went to best of origin/country). That year (2003), Panama coffees ranked 1st (Lerida Estates), 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th out of 100+ worldwide entrants. Quite a landslide on a worldwide scale.

In 2004, there was no cupping competition while they (SCAA) revamped the competition which makes sense from their view since they represent all coffee growing regions.

Then in 2005, La Hacienda Esmeralda (Panama – Boquete area) introduced their geisha/gesha (bean) coffee to the competition and won in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Many coffee connoisseurs considered this was the best coffee ever. This coffee also blew the lid off of wholesale prices.

So based on independent cupping competitions, Panama is the best answer to your question. Then again, it does come down to your palate preferences.

Best Coffee (by origin, worldwide)

Now that we have learned almost everything about coffee, it’s time to decide what coffee is the best: top coffees grown in one region and chased-after all over the world.

So let’s begin from the coffees that you have already got acquainted with in our previous article Coffee origins.Every coffee from the same region has some distinctive features that make it different out of coffees from totally different geographical zones. However the coffees from one area keep their personal individuality and therefore contrast with one another.

By origin:

Latin America

Brazil – the country is the biggest coffee supplier in the universe however it cannot boast of some highest coffee quality. Still there is one type of coffee bean that comes from Sao Paolo suburb and named Santos due to the port it is exported. The coffee is famous for its pleasant smooth flavor, medium body and temperate acidity. However it is still far from the top specialty coffee from the universe.

Africa/Arabia

Ethiopia – the coffee here tastes different as in comparison to the Brazilian one and is far better. It is both highly prized and priced on the universal coffee market and though there are several coffee beans deserving coffee amateurs’ attention, still the best coffee from region was and still is Yigarchiffee or Sidamo in other words. The bean has a distinguishing floral smell, strong thick body, a wonderful aroma and smooth ripeness, in a class by itself.

Kenya – the best coffee from this country is Kenya AA grade which is very easy to find. This coffee is known for its strong thick body, flickering acidity, agreeable aroma and winy aftertaste with slight nuances of berries and citrus.

Tanzania – coffee from this African country is one of the most popular in the world. The best coffees produced in this region are Bourbon, Kents, Nyara and Blue Mountain. These coffees are highly appreciated all over the world and are distinct for their fine acidity and full flavor.

Yemen – though the only country from the Arabic region growing coffee, it isn’t behind other Famous Coffee producing regions and indulges us with one of the most popular coffee Yemen Mocha. It is distinct for its specific flavor and unique taste not found in any other world-wide coffee.

Pacific Asia

India – the best Indian coffee is considered to be the Monsooned Malabar bean. It has been discovered by chance when a watercraft charged with coffee beans transported them by sea to the Cape of Good Hope. Exposed to the sun and the monsooned winds, the beans have changed their taste becoming richer and smoother. The coffee is known for its heavy body, pungency and classy quality, chocolaty aroma and a little shrill taste.

Sumatra – the country is mostly known for its two most popular types of coffee: Lintong and Mandheling which are the market names for the high quality Sumatran coffees. Lintong name is used to describe coffees grown in a small zone southwest of Lake Toba in the district of Lintongnihuta. The coffee trees grow under the burning sun without being treated with any chemicals. Mandheling, in its turn, isn’t a name for a certain type of coffee bean; it is rather a common title for the Lintong coffee as well as for coffees grown under the same conditions in the regency of Diari, north of Lake Toba.

Sulawesi – the best coffee from this region is grown in Torajaland, near the upcountry town of Rantepao. The coffee trees are planted on small areas around the locals’ houses and the entire family takes part in growing, processing and selecting coffee. It is a commercial crop that feeds the entire village.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) – the most popular coffee crops grown here are Sigri and Arona. They are very well balanced with a fruity aroma and earthy body.

Worldwide:

Ethiopia – the Yirgacheffe coffee is the most popular bean from the region and is also very well-known by coffee connoisseurs from the whole world. It is famous for its saturated dark color and fruity hints.

Hawaii – The JavaBerry Black Estate Reserve is one of the most strongly recommended places to go to while visiting Hawaii. Kona Peaberry and Kona Extra Fancy will offer a full range of full flavor and smooth taste.

Nicaragua – the most popular coffee is Madriz which will be a welcoming beverage to your house. Is known for delicate but deep aroma, with floral hints and nuances of orange, peach along with some chocolate notes.

Sumatra – Indonesian coffee gets more and more expensive with years and especially because of the frequent tsunami. However, if the price doesn’t scare you at all, then you should definitely try the Organic Sumatra Reserve. It has a medium body with sweet chocolate hints and fruity shade along with thick aroma.

Selling Latte Makers

In my mind, a coffee shop has to be one of the primary organizations to have and operate, simply because of how good men and women feel if they’re in their favorite coffee shop. You are making some fantastic pals, and the surroundings is usually upbeat and attractive… just the sorts of place people need to be. On the other hand, you might find yourself either requiring or planning to sell your Coffee Machines & coffee shop, and so this article is designed to supply you with a few pointers on the easiest way to go about doing that.

Initially, be sure your accounting and books come in fantastic order. The number one thing serious buyers need to see would be the numbers that indicate where your business stands regarding revenue, charges, and profit. Whatever you decide to do, don’t attempt to cook the books, or perhaps in any way exaggerate It will only come back to worry you later by means of lawsuits over falsification and fraudulence. The easiest method to sell any business is usually to make it easy for a potential purchaser to find the information they really want to make a thought out decision, and having your own books in order is the better way to do that.

2nd, give your store a basic clean up and facelift. I am not speaking about a major redevelopment here, or spending a lot of money. But, similar to the approach you might stage a home you were selling, be sure your business is definitely putting it’s best foot forward, as they say. Clean, freshen, and brighten up everything, including your unseen preparation and storage locations. You would not attempt to market your used car with out at least running it over the car wash, would you?

Finally, list the coffee shop’s and Coffee Machines five greatest strong points and five greatest weak spots. Listing the strengths is definitely an evident one – you do that so you will know what features to stress when it comes time to advertising and communication with potential customers – however why on the planet would you desire to list weak spots? Simple… so you will be as well prepared as you can be to overcome your consumer’s possible objections. The more ruthless you are in this self examination, the better well prepared you will be to manage these types of objections when they occur. You may even find some things you can actually correct, so tend not to miss this significant step.

Now that you have undergone these preparatory ways, it is time to contemplate the way to get your coffee shop for sale in front of the most effective number of serious, qualified potential buyers. We will cope with that in another article. Apply these tips and sell coffee shop ideas, and you’ll position your business to command optimum price in the most effective time possible.

As the use of {electricity|electrical energy|electrical power} expanded, the {need|require|want|will need} grew for {added|additional|extra} {power|energy|electrical power|strength}-{generation|era} and -distribution {facilities|amenities|services}, and when the Brush {Electric|Electrical} & {Power|Energy|Electrical power|Strength} Co. merged with the Cleveland {Electric|Electrical} {Light|Gentle|Mild} Co. in 1892, a {large|big|huge|significant} powerhouse was {constructed|made|built|produced} on Canal St. These developments led to the formation of the CLEVELAND {Electric|Electrical} ILLUMINATING CO. the {same|exact same|identical|very same} {year|yr|12 months|calendar year}. Its {status|standing} as the {site|website|web site|internet site} of a {major|main|key|significant} exposition of the electrical {industry|business|market|marketplace} in 1914 {further|additional|more} promoted Cleveland’s {claim|declare} to primacy.
The 1895 discovery of “x-rays” by the German scientist Wilhelm Roentgen touched off {considerable|substantial} {activity|exercise} in Cleveland. DAYTON C. MILLER , professor of physics at the {Case|Situation|Circumstance} {School|College} of {Applied|Utilized} Science, {improved|enhanced} the x-raying {process|procedure|method|approach} for {medical|health-related|healthcare|health care} {uses|makes use of|utilizes|employs}. Henry P. Engeln, in collaboration with Dr. George Iddings, was a pioneer in the x-ray {industry|business|market|marketplace}, establishing the Engeln {Electric|Electrical} Co. {around|about|close to|all around} the {turn|flip} of the century. {During|Throughout|In the course of|For the duration of} its independent {life|existence|lifestyle}, the Engeln Co. did {highly|extremely|very|hugely} {innovative|revolutionary|progressive|modern} {work|operate|perform|function} in the {development|improvement|advancement|growth} and {marketing|advertising|advertising and marketing|marketing and advertising} of x-ray {equipment|gear|tools|devices}, and when it merged with Acme X-Ray Corp. of Chicago in 1929, it had 200 {employees|staff|workers}. The merged {company|business|organization|firm} was acquired by Westinghouse in 1930 who {sold|offered|bought|marketed} its plant at E. 30th St. and Superior to Picker X-Ray which {became|grew to become} a {leading|main|top|foremost} {firm|agency} in that {field|area|subject|discipline} (see PICKER INTL., INC.).
Arc welding was an {important|essential|crucial|critical} industrial {application|software} of electrical {technology|technologies|know-how|engineering} in Cleveland, as was arc welding, largely due to John C. Lincoln, founder of the LINCOLN {Electric|Electrical} CO., who had gained {experience|encounter|expertise|knowledge} {working|operating|functioning|doing work} in Charles F. Brush’s {shops|retailers|outlets|stores}. Lincoln {Electric|Electrical}, which {began|started|commenced} {producing|creating|generating|making} {electric|electrical} motors in 1896, pioneered in the {development|improvement|advancement|growth} of arc-welding {equipment|gear|tools|devices}, and by 1938 it claimed to be the {largest|biggest|greatest} {manufacturer|producer} of that line in the {world|globe|planet|entire world}. Variable {speed|pace|velocity} {electric|electrical} motors {were|had been|have been} {designed|created|developed|intended} by John Lincoln who {incorporated|integrated|included} the Lincoln Motor {Works|Functions|Operates|Performs} Co. in 1906 to {produce|create|generate|make} them. In 1909 the {firm|agency} {changed|modified|altered|transformed} its {name|title|identify} to the Reliance {Electric|Electrical} & Engineering Co. (see RELIANCE {Electric|Electrical} CO.).
In addition to lighting, traction, and industrial {applications|programs}, the electrical {home|house|residence|property}-{appliance|equipment} {field|area|subject|discipline} was richly represented in Cleveland by {World|Globe|Planet|Entire world} War I. Heating-{related|associated|connected|relevant} appliances {included|incorporated|integrated} {coffee|espresso} percolators, hotplates, frying pans, corn poppers, {baby|child|infant|little one}-bottle warmers, kitchen ranges, hair dryers, and radiant heaters. By 1938, the Willard Co.’s 15-acre plant, {built|constructed|developed|created} in 1914, was turning out 15,000 batteries per day.

Lighting and visibility {research|study|analysis|investigation} devoted to military {problems|issues|difficulties|troubles} also occupied the GE laboratories there. These wartime {activities|actions|pursuits|routines} stimulated the formation of a new Electronics {Department|Division} at GE in 1947. The postwar {period|interval} was also {one|1|a single|one particular} of {rapid|fast|speedy|quick} {growth|development|progress} for the {industry|business|market|marketplace}.
