 Bread Alone

Bread Alone

$0.01

A deliciously magical and mouthwatering debut, Bread Alone is the uplifting journey of a woman whose entire life changes course when her husband announces one evening that their marriage no longer works for him.Not suited for teaching high school and hopeless at selling real estate, thirty-one-year-old Wynter Morrison long ago gave up trying to find a suitable career and drifted into the role of a trophy wife — mainly to suit her husband’s desires. An ambitious advertising executive, David had encouraged Wyn to spend her days among other society wives at wine tastings, French films, and trendy restaurants — improving their social Rolodex and his array of business contacts. So, after seven years of marriage, when David informs Wyn that he feels confined and that their marriage was a mistake, she is left emotionally devastated and without direction, wondering how she let herself become so dependent.Desperate for a change of scenery, Wyn leaves behind her posh, pampered life in Hancock Park and ventures north to Seattle, where she spends aimless hours at a local bakery, sipping coffee and inhaling the sweet aroma of freshly made bread. These visits bring back memories of her apprenticeship at a French boulangerie, when her passion for bread-making nearly led her to leave college to become a baker. Once again the desire and ambition to bake bread consumes Wyn’s thoughts, and when offered a position at the bakery, Wyn quickly accepts, grateful for the comfort of a routine.Arriving at the bakery just before midnight and working long hours among the bakery’s cluster of eclectic women — Linda, the irascible bread baker; earth mother Ellen and her partnerDiane; Tyler, the blue-haired barista — Wyn awakens to the truths that she missed while living the good life in Hancock Park. And soon she discovers that making bread — the kneading of the dough, the heat from the ovens — possesses an unexpected and wondrous healing power,

Excerpt: São Tomé Island – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The main language is Portuguese, but there are many speakers of Forro and Angolar (Ngola), two Portuguese-based creole languages. The entire island of São Tomé is a massive shield volcano which rises from the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, over 3,000 m (10,000 ft) below sea level. It formed along the Cameroon line, a linear rift zone extending from Cameroon southwest into the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the lava erupted on São Tomé over the last million years has been basalt. The youngest dated rock on the island is about 100,000 years old, but numerous more recent cinder cones are found on the southeast side of the island. The higher slopes of the island are forested and form part of the Obo National Park, but agriculture is important near the north and east coasts. The chief exports are cocoa, coffee, copra, and palm products, while there is also a fishing industry. Large reserves of oil are in the ocean between Nigeria and São Tomé. The discovery has been lamented by some as endangering the nation’s political stability and natural environment. In response to these concerns the government of São Tomé and Príncipe has drawn up legislation in an attempt to ensure the efficient and equitable use of oil revenues over time. Chapters: Martin Carthy, Craig White, Sir Hugh Cholmeley, 4th Baronet, Harcourt Vanden-Bempde-Johnstone, 1st Baron Derwent, Gordon Gibb, Nicholas Postgate. Excerpt: Martin Carthy MBE is an English folk singer and guitarist who has remained one of the most influential figures in British traditional music, inspiring contemporaries such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon and later artists such as Richard Thompson since he emerged as a young musician in the early days of the folk revival. He was born in Hatfield on 21 May 1941 and grew up in Hampstead, North London. After leaving school, he worked behind the scenes at the open air theatre at Regent’s Park as a prompter, then an assistant stage manager (ASM) on a tour of The Merry Widow, and then at Theatre in the Round in Scarborough. He then sang in coffee bars. He became a resident at The Troubadour folk club in Earls Court in the early 1960s. He joined Redd Sullivan’s Thameside Four in 1961. He is a renowned solo performer of traditional songs in a very distinctive style, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar; his style is marked by the use of alternative tunings, and a strongly percussive picking style that emphasizes the melody. His debut album, Martin Carthy, was released in 1965, and also featured Dave Swarbrick playing fiddle on some tracks, although he was not mentioned in the album’s sleeve notes. Carthy’s arrangement of the traditional ballad Scarborough Fair was adapted, without acknowledgment, by Paul Simon on the Simon and Garfunkel album recording Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme in 1966. He has also been involved with many musical collaborations. He has sung with The Watersons since 1972, was twice a member of the UK electric folk group Steeleye Span, was a member of the Albion Country Band 1973… More:

“can the tow company refuse a bank check”?

Scotts towing of Dracut Ma towed my car today from Dunkin Donuts parking lot at UML north Campus. The man on the phone, who claimed to be the owner said that they do not take credit cards or bank checks they can only take cash.

A bunch of us had our cars towed today. There is a 15 minute rule, but if you ran with your coffee over to the bank this time they towed it, if the time limit hit 15 minutes they towed it! The tow trucks were lining up to grab everyone’s car!
It happens there sometimes, but not always. What I want to know is, can he legally refuse the bank check? Where do I go to find out what the rules on that are?

any company in the US can refuse a check of any sort

There Is A Flaw In The Neighborhood

When we moved into a new neighborhood, I was pleased to find new friends almost immediately. Our new home and neighborhood are wonderful. It seemed like a very friendly community. Jen is down the block, Marcia is next door, and Lisa is around the corner. I was invited to join them for morning coffee during my first week there.

We all have kids and dogs, but is that enough to establish a friendship? Yes, we walk our dogs together. Our kids do enjoy going to the park and all playing together. It seemed ideal until I started selling products from the herbalifeline.

After that it was all downhill. All three of the gals bought some green planet environmentally-safe cleaning products. Lisa bought shampoo and conditioner. Marcia added cosmetics to her order of cleaning products.

The cleaning products are effective and I know since I use them in my house. But Marcia disagreed on that. She told me they didn’t work as well as what she bought from the store. They didn’t clean the floors as well. They left soap scum in the tub. Even the dishwashing soap was not good enough. After refusing a refund, I began to wish she would drop the subject. She declined but continued to gripe.

I listened every morning till I wished I had not sold her anything in the first place. Finally she bought her old tried and true products at the store. It was not as if my family would starve because of lack of purchases.

Right after morning coffee one day, I felt like putting on my black helmet and riding my bike away and grumbling under my breath all the way. One day I mentioned the word bike, but the ever griping Marcia wanted to go along. Forget that idea.

The other two friends could barely keep a straight face. I would have loved to take my schwinn mountain bike out for a ride with them. But I wasn’t willing to with Marcia. I would wait and ride with my kids after school.

I had no intention of riding with Lisa. It is hard enough being friendly during the coffee break. She makes me want to eat two chocolate doughnuts instead of one. Of course we hear about how perfect her children are. Her husband is a combination of Russel Crowe and Mr. Rogers. To top it off, her dog is a purebred while ours are rescue dogs.

Now here I am, happy in my home. Pleased to have Jen and Lisa in my life, I love the neighborhood. I secretly feel my dog is superior to Marcia’s and that my kids are smarter. I do not, however brag about it. I don’t look down on Marcia and I wish she wouldn’t look down on me.

Are There Any Health Benefits For Drinking Coffee?

Many people simply do not drink caffeinated coffee because of their fear of negative health effects. The real truth is that some new research has actually shown a few health benefits with the moderate consumption of coffee. Many people drink coffee simply because of it’s energizing effects which help keep you awake longer and feeling less groggy in the morning. If you are drinking too much coffee there are of course negative side effects that can come of it despite the positivity of these new studies. We will talk about a few of the potential health effects coffee can have in this article.

People who drink two or more cups of coffee on a daily basis increase their risk to develop osteoporosis. Research conducted with about one thousand different women discovered that drinking plenty of coffee can deter the body’s ability to absorb a little of the necessary vitamins and minerals from the diet. This can cause the body to get osteoporosis, which is a large reduction of bone density that is usually linked to elderly patients. Yet proof of decreasing bone density has been found with some heavy coffee drinkers. Of course there are other lifestyle factors that could contribute to an early onset of osteoporosis. These things include smoking, drinking alcohol and using hormones. The study also went on to say that some of the negative effects of heavy coffee drinking could be reduced by adding milk to the coffee.

There is a slightly lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes among coffee drinkers. Some studies show that the risk reduction is as much as 50% for people who drink 2 cups of coffee daily. The common rule of thought is that the caffeine in coffee causes a decrease in insulin sensitivity.

Unfortunately, the same effect can also lead to hypoglycemia, or very low blood sugar levels, in susceptible patients. The symptoms of hypoglycemia are not nice and include heart palpitations, weakness and sweaty, clammy skin. If you have hypoglycemia, you would be best served by abstaining from coffee completely. There are needless to say number of other distinct types of coffee maker machines for everyday and gourmet coffee available which includes single cup coffee makers as well as espresso coffee makers and a lot more.

It has been discovered that both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee have a mild laxative effect that can deter constipation. Because of the laxative effect, it is said that drinking coffee can help to decrease the risk of getting colon cancer. But, people that are heavy coffee drinkers tend to have loose bowels. If this is the case, then drinking coffee in moderation will rectify this.

Despite the fact that there are noteworthy benefits for drinking coffee there still remain a few negative effects to watch out for. Play it safe by drinking in moderation. Do this and you can avoid the potential benefits of drinking coffee without the risks of drinking too much.
